I think he respecting your wishes and believe if you have sex with him although you all was together for four year. Maybe he think you would regret it and broke up with him since he love you so much…..
Choosing to remain a virgin until marriage is a pretty absolute decision. And if that’s what your boyfriend has decided, there isn’t anything you can do. So in that case, you’ll either have to 1) respect his decision, 2) leave him and start having sex, or 3) cheat on him.
