“My wife has a slight drinking problem”

My wife has a slight drinking problem. Not an alcoholic but she just can’t control how much she drinks when we’re out with friends. We can’t go out and just have a couple beers or glasses of wine and enjoy an evening.

It starts out as one beer that gets drunk immediately, not chugged, but rapidly drunk, swallow after swallow. It’s like compulsive, it’s there and I have to drink it. Then she needs another one. Can’t just sip and enjoy it, nope, has to consume it because it’s there. About the third beer in, she’s getting intoxicated, but denies it. If I try to get her to slow down, she gets defensive and belligerent. Now it’s up to 5 or 6 beers and she’s loud, belligerent and nasty. We fight and argue about it and go home. Next time we go out I try to get her to control it but it never works, another spoiled evening, because she consumed too much, too fast and will not stop. She usually apologizes the next day and says she won’t do it again. Always does. This is very frustrating. She refuses to get help or counseling as she is convinced in her own mind that everything is fine. What do I do?

“I found out my wife cheated on me 14 years ago”

Back when we dating, my wife had sex with a guy on cruise. It was 14 years ago, and we had been dating for 4 years at that point. We now have been married for 2 years, and I only found out 6 months ago, when she decided to tell me sort of out of the blue.

After she told me, I found a photo album with 6 pics of her hanging on this guy. She said this meant nothing to her. Yet, why did she save the pics?

She refuses now even to discuss this with me. I feel she is not being honest with me about what it meant. Should I be upset?

“My wife got drunk and tried to cheat on me”

Should I be mad about this? I caught my wife cheating on me with … ME.

My wife is (EXTREMELY, like ready to divorce me) mad at me, because (ironically) she thinks I cheated on her. Long story involving a lady who was a friend of mine (never even kissed her, actually) and a years-old email message from my friend that that I’d totally forgotten about. Until my wife (snooping through my old email messages) went batsh*t crazy over it, that is.

So my wife decides she’s going to solve all of her problems by spending THE RENT MONEY to go out alone with her “gay” friend (I’ll call him Mike) and get plastered.

She calls me at 1 AM to come get her. She’d spent about $150 of the rent money, I assume on drinks for the two of them. But when I found them, she was buying takeout food for him. Could have killed them both, but there was a young child home (asleep), so I was mainly concerned with getting my drunk wife home fast. Continue reading

“My wife’s friends are tearing apart our marriage”

My wife has a best friend who gave her advice during a difficult time in our marriage. I did all I could to patch things up and become the man my wife wants me to be, but she continued to listen to the friend. She dogged me out, asking why I was calling her on Thanksgiving while deployed.

Upon returning, I had a suspicion that something was going on, so I took her phone and found text messages between my wife and her friend, dogging me out. I came home one day and found prepaid cards lying around, and she said she was throwing them away from work, but I later found a phone card in a drawer.

Later, I caught my wife lying three times about having a prepaid phone which I had discovered. I told her to cut off the relationship with the friend, because it’s destroying our marriage and because she consistency lies to me. I am honest, open, and trying to love my wife through arguments and disagreements we have. I see my mistakes of the past (no infidelity) and try to work out things. Continue reading

“I caught my wife going to a guy’s house”

I caught my wife going to her coworkers house at 4:30 in the morning right before I got out of work — after I told her I don’t want her contacting him. Well I thought it was all good.

For some reason, I left my phone in car while I was at work. And the recorder was on. I asked her what she did after work, she said take a shower then to get me. Well she went to his house — I could hear them talking for a bit about going inside his house. They did for about 20 minutes, then got back in car, and I heard them saying they hope I don’t sneak up on them talking behind my back. I mean, she cheated. What do you think?

“My wife and stepson don’t respect me”

Me and my wife have been together for 8 years, married for just over 3. She has a 10-year-old son from a previous relationship.

When we first got together, all was great. My stepson loved and enjoyed being around me, so we got engaged.

However, slowly over the years, my wife has left a lot of things to me in terms of housework, cooking and tidying our flat, doesn’t speak to me with an awful lot of respect, and is very often short with me when the situation really doesn’t call for it (I think of myself as a nice guy who doesn’t like confrontation).

The knock-on effect of the way she is has also caused my stepson to lack any sort of respect for me and treat me like dirt. If I try to stand up to him, my wife will just undermine my authority by visibly criticizing my parenting skills in front of him, to the point where I now walk out of the room if I can see he’s doing something he shouldn’t, because I know that if I react, then I will have my authority undermined again (when I do try to discipline him all I get is her moaning that we should stop arguing, rather than standing by what I have to say). “My wife won’t stop texting her guy friends”

Should I stay or leave? We’ve been married for five years, dated for seven, have two kids, life great, no problems.

So here it is: my wife has always had guy friends. Before we met, she had slept with a few of them. So, when we started dating, I requested that they keep their distance. Fast forward to a year ago when I picked her up, very drunk, from night out. I found a text on her phone to one of these guys from the past whom she slept with saying “what you at.”

A fight started and she says that she can’t remember why she would text.

Fast forward.

She’s in a new job, and has met friends (guys & girls). She’s friendly with one guy, which is okay, but she wouldn’t stop talking about him every day and about what they got up to, and texting with him constantly. I sat down with her and explained that guy friends are okay, but this guy was getting too close. She said she would back off and respect my boundaries — just talk at work, but stop texting all day. “I’m in love with my wife’s sister”

My wife & I have been married for 15 years. Before I say anything about my current & long lasting situation I want to just make it clear, I love my wife.

My situation is this: for the last 15 years I have been in love with someone else, too. I met her just a few weeks after I met my wife. From the first time I saw her, I fell head over heals for this beautiful girl. ( I will use a fake name of Amy for her) From day one Amy & I hit it off. But there were two problems. 1) I was dating my now wife at the time. 2) The biggest problem, Amy, was her sister. Only four years younger than me.

So there is my problem. As wrong as it sounds, I have been in love with my sister in-law for the past 15 years.

In my 15 year marriage I have had awesome memories, good times & bad times. No kids though. On the other hand, in the years since Amy & I have known each other we have found more & more things in common. We enjoy the same music & hobbies. We can easily talk for hours at a time. We have become each others best friend. Helping each other through whatever life tosses our way. It was only a matter of time until, in various indirect ways, we both made it clear that the feelings were the same for each other. At one time just last year we had an “almost kiss” moment.

“I don’t want to go on holiday with my wife’s elderly parents”

My wife of 12 years is angry because I don’t want to go on holiday with her elderly parents. The thing is, we have already been away once this year, have another holiday next week with grandkids and another for me and her at new year. She doesn’t even have to work as I give her money every month, too.

It’s not just down to cost either, as I can’t stand her parents. They constantly bicker and have really bad and embarrassing manners. Wife is saying that they are old now and may not have many more holidays but her mum goes on about 3 or 4 holidays every year anyway. I feel like I am being blackmailed. Am I being unreasonable?
