Pet name for my boyfriend?

So my boyfriend and I have never really been the type to use pet names but last week he came up with Monkey, and has been calling me that. I like Koala but he thinks Koalas are lame so he suggested Capybara. He also suggested Wombat or Nutria, so at first I thought he was kidding but he told me he wasn’t.

Capybaras are cute but it doesn’t really roll off the tongue. Is it bad that I don’t have a pet name for him? My boyfriend says that I can call him whatever I want but I think he likes capybara because he tried to ply me with all these cute Google images of them. I’m looking for an animal name that is cute and easy to say when cuddling. What do you guys think about my situation, and what are your pet names for your significant others?

[Pet names definitely are not my thing, but if you’re going to use them, I definitely prefer something special and personal. Being around people who pretty much exclusively call their SO’s babe and hon drives me INSANE. Personally, I think using your SO’s name can have a really nice affect of catching their attention.

[If you don’t like Capybara, how about Chupacabra? More mysterious and sexy. Plus, you can shorten it to “Chupy.” Or “Choops.”

[Ummm…based on some of the suggestions above in a few years most people are going to think that most of the pet names being used have been stolen from Harry Potter.

[I think that pet names have to come up organically. The best pet names come from a funny inside joke or something that your brain makes up in a sleepy stuppor and you mummble it into his shoulder as you drift off.

Anything else is trying too hard.

[I like wombat! My SO and I don’t really have pet names for each other, but we do call each other “baby” on occasion. I call him habeebee as a joke, since he mumbles and “hi baby” kind of runs together and sounds like habeebee.
